A support group created during covid March 2022 by visionary leader Zia Teshome, who saw a gap in, in-person support groups for black women in inner London. She would organize different activities for groups of black women to enjoy after work so that they could connect and socialize together and meet new people. She continued this work throughout 2023 and offered financial support, by giving money advice and help with applying for grants when they faced financial difficulties due to a cost of living crisis. As well as providing vital warm bank Friday night ‘Dine & Mingle sessions during the coldest winter of 2022-spring 2023 at a local black-owned restaurant. Highgate Black Women’s Wellness Group always wants black women to have access to the arts and entertainment as black joy is very much the heart of their work. So the summer of 2023 saw them organize #staycaytionaugast which was when free day trips around London were available for members to enjoy with their children to enrich their summer holidays due to foreign holidays during peak season being too expensive for them.
